We often hear pet owners say, “this must be the hardest part of your job.”, so why do we do it?
In 2014, we adopted a little cat we named Nova, signifying a new beginning for her, and a shining star in our lives. She quickly became part of the family, Laura’s shadow, and our constant source of joy. Nova was with us through house moves, university degrees, and life’s ups and downs. Her high fives, love of food, and soothing purrs made even the hardest days lighter.
Almost 10 years later, we were devastated to learn she had lymphoma. We chose not to pursue chemotherapy, knowing it would bring more distress than comfort. Instead, we focused on quality of life: her favourite foods, endless catnip, and hours of cuddles. We used the same tools we now share with pet owners to help us track her wellbeing and make the most of the time we had left.

When it came time to say goodbye, we were able to do so at home, where she was safe and loved and we were able to grieve freely. That peaceful farewell shaped our mission.
Supernova Vets was born from Nova’s story. Guided by both veterinary expertise and lived experience, we are dedicated to helping families navigate end-of-life care with compassion, dignity, and love.
Who we are
Supernova Vets is an independent, family-run practice dedicated to compassionate end-of-life care.
Laura, our lead vet, brings years of experience in emergency medicine and holds a master’s degree in clinical animal behaviour. She’s also completed Fear Free and Blue Cross Bereavement Support certifications, ensuring both pets and owners are cared for with understanding and empathy.
Lee supports the practice behind the scenes — you may speak with him by phone or email as he helps coordinate visits and assist families during difficult times.

We’re also always looking to add to a small, trusted team of like-minded vets across the North West who share our passion for gentle, dignified end-of-life care. This close-knit network allows us to support families promptly, ensuring every pet receives the care they deserve, when they need it most
